5 Eco homes, Stawell, Somerset
The Old Apple Store, Stawell is the first private sector housing development built to the Code Level 5 for sustainable homes in the country. Five dwellings were constructed on a brownfield site to incorporate renewable energy and other eco technology. Onsite energy production is designed to generate 100% of the electricity demand for lighting, pumps, fans etc. and deliver a 100% improvement on the “dwelling emission rate” over a standard house. The properties offer superior insulation (including triple glazing) as well as maximising thermal mass, solar gain and natural light to reduce energy demand. All the homes harvest rainwater .
