
Straw bale and timber frame house, Somerset
Set in stunning countryside, overlooking Glastonbury Tor, this new home is a straw bale, timber framed self build. After lengthy negotiations, O2i Design gained Planning Approval for the owner.
The house has been designed with many green features including:
• Timber frame built with locally sourced Douglas Fir
• Straw bale walls rendered with lime
• 200 mm of Ecotherm insulation under the floor, Warmcell in the roof
• Recycled Pantiles from the previous house that stood on the site
• Log-burning stove for augmenting the solar in the winter, and the
passive solar heating
• Heat recovery ventilation system, for conserving heat in the house
• Biodigester for treating waste water and Rainwater harvesting
The house was featured in Mendip Open Green event.
