A Live/Work unit

Situated on the Somerset Levels, this derelict barn is being converted to provide a live/work unit for its owner and his family.

O2i Design prepared a scheme which, at first, raised the roof line to allow clerestorey windows to be introduced. This alteration from its original form was not supported by the local authority and so large rooflights have been designed to allow daylight into a new first floor sitting room. These “light shelves” will form perfect enclaves for relaxing with a book while having views out into the valley beyond.

Having gained planning permission and Building Control approval work is well underway with the main construction work now complete. Once the windows and doors are fitted it will be weather-tight and the internal fit-out work can begin.

Expected completion mid 2011.
