Nor does it guarantee that it will be allocated for development. Instead, it simply allows Somerset Council to consider the site as the Local Plan progresses.
Is it too late to submit a site?
No. Although the original Call for Sites closed in 2025, Somerset Council has now reopened the submission portal.
The Council says the portal will remain open on a rolling basis until further notice. However, it is likely to close again before the next consultation on the Somerset Local Plan in 2027. Therefore, if you’re thinking about putting land forward, it may be worth doing so sooner rather than later.
Is it worth putting land forward?
Every site is different and there are constraints. Submitting a site simply means Somerset Council knows your land exists and can consider it alongside other sites as the Local Plan develops.
However, there is no guarantee that any site will be allocated for development. Even so, if you’ve been wondering whether your land could play a part in Somerset’s future growth, submitting it gives the Council the opportunity to consider it.
